Update The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 has more competition than ever with the likes of the iPad Pro 11 and Samsung's own Tab S4 now on the market, but it's also now cheaper than it once was and remains a top Android Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 remains the best Android tablet you can buy, despite the launch of the newer Samsung Galaxy Tab can do just about anything the iPad Pro 11 can, yet it costs far less. In fact, watching the dystopian alternate-history Amazon TV series The Man in the High Castle on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3’s HDR screen prompts an analogy what if Apple’s iPad Pro ran Android? That’s pretty much what we have here. It’s Android’s first worthy competitor to the iPad Pro and the rest of the Pro range, though that one especially as it has the same screen size, with strong specs to match, and it pairs well with the elegant-looking Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 – also feature-packed and enveloped in Galaxy Tab S3 is easily the best Android tablet you can buy right now thanks to its all-glass design upgrade, future-proofed HDR-ready display and included S hardly a difficult call for us to make – other than the flawed Tab S4, the older Google Pixel C and the not-quite-as-premium Asus ZenPad 3S 10 are its only real challengers at a similar is a challenge is determining who the Tab S3 is right for. It launched at $599 £599, AU$780, and while it comes with the S Pen Apple’s tablet does not offer a stylus in the box, the keyboard is separate. When you add it all up, it borders on cheap laptop prices, and there’s no cheaper 8-inch Tab S3 to give you an affordable entry-level this is slightly less of a problem now, as prices have dropped to a more palatable $470 / £400 / AU$600 in some are also getting the first though no longer only HDR-ready tablet with better brightness and contrast ratio with the Samsung Galaxy S3 Galaxy Tab S3 is Samsung’s best travel-friendly 2-in-1 tablet that can pull off productivity – if you’re willing to pay for the separate keyboard. It’s thinner and lighter than the equally tempting 2-in-1 Samsung Chromebook Pro laptop, which doesn’t have a detachable keyboard and includes a smaller S Pen, and it finally gives the iPad Pro some meaningful Galaxy Tab S3 price and availabilityTablet with the S Pen launched at $599 £599, about AU$780Can now be found for around $470 / £400 / AU$600The keyboard is separate at $129 £119As mentioned, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 launched for $599 £599, about AU$780, however it can now be found for around $470 / £400 / AU$ more of a mid-range price than the high-end, iPad Pro-rivaling one it launched at, and is in line with the 128GB iPad model, which costs $429 / £409 / AU$599 though a cheaper 32GB version is also available. No 'PC load letter' error messages here The real value over Apple’s tablet comes from the S Pen, which is included with the Tab S3 – the Apple Pencil costs an extra $99 £99, AU$145. You also don’t need to worry about recharging Samsung’s S Galaxy Tab S3 keyboard is a separate purchase, with Samsung charging $129 £119, though as with the slate itself this can now be found for less if you shop for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 release date, it became available in US stores on March 24 2017, while the UK wasn't too far behind with a March 31, 2017 launch designed glass and metal tablet designMore comfortable to hold than its plastic predecessorOtherwise looks exactly like the Galaxy Tab S2The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 touts a small but likable design upgrade over the Galaxy Tab S2, even if it’s easy to mistake it for Samsung’s year-and-a-half-old tablet from the best changes happen round back, where the Tab S3 sports a new glass back panel in either black or silver. It looks and feels better than the rubberized plastic cover of the Tab S2, and the glass is more comfortable to hold; while you’re trading instantly collected sweat marks on the older model for fingerprints and smudges on the Gorilla Glass back, you’re ending up can technically still claim that the Tab S3 is thinner and lighter than an iPad Pro, with dimensions of x 169 x 6mm and a weight of 429g the iPad Pro is thick and weighs 437g. But don’t be fooled; the variations are hardly noticeable. The Tab S2 is and 389g, and we felt barely any difference between the three slates. The Tab S3 looks and feels like a blown-up Samsung Galaxy S7 phone, with a useful physical fingerprint sensor home button, and 'back' and 'recent' capacitive buttons aligned at the bottom. Without the keyboard attachment, it excels at being an entertainment device first and real difference is seen and heard in the HDR display, which pumps up the contrast ratio, and the four speakers, which pump out the volume better than a tablet with a mono previously got a taste of HDR on a mobile device with the short-lived Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and it came back to Samsung phones with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, as well as subsequent S and Note display and quad speakersBrilliant HDR-ready screen awaits HDR video contentFuture-proofed as the world's first HDR-ready tabletIts four speakers can get loud and are finely tuneSamsung tablets and phones already have the best screens going, with bright and pixel-dense Super AMOLED display panels. Now, by including HDR technology, Samsung is making them even Dynamic Range HDR gives the same 2048 x 1536 Quad HD resolution higher contrast ratios and brighter highlights. This is especially important in darker movie scenes in which you tend to lose too much of the picture to Tab S3’s support of the new HDR10 standard is actually a bigger deal than if Samsung packed a 4K screen into a tablet. The expanded brightness range does more than extra pixels would at this small size – more pixels matter when you’re dealing with a larger 4K the problem there’s not a lot of HDR video content available today. It’s being rolled out with streaming video services like Amazon Video and Netflix already on board on Samsung, LG and Sony TVs, but we weren’t able to find HDR video on these services at the tablet's launch. Instead, we had to rely on Samsung HDR demos and movie trailers to enjoy what’s ultimately the future of video. It’s definitely a jump up in quality, but as the content isn't here yet, you’re paying in advance for a tablet that will deliver that improved quality soon, but not right now. That makes the Tab S3 an amazing technical feat, but a hard sell to average consumers at you can take advantage of right now are the quad speakers on the Tab S3. They reach a more powerful volume than what we've heard from the mono Tab S2 and so many other tablets. Better yet, they’re calibrated to your movements, so as you rotate the tablet the stereo speaker orientation changes, so you’re never holding it the wrong way for sound. As long as you’re not expecting deep base, these AKG-tuned quad HD speakers go ear-to-ear with the those on the equally-rich-sounding iPad Pro You can get some bass out of the Tab S3 with the right headphones, which you’re probably going to use more often when roaming with this tablet in good news this tablet has both a headphone jack on the bottom of the frame, and supports Bluetooth No one is getting rid of headphone jacks in tablets – PenLarger than the S Pen in Note phones, tablets and ChromebooksStylus design is flat and has a clip – it won't roll away on youBut there's nowhere to holster it without buying the keyboardThe Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 transforms in look and potential with the included S Pen and keyboard attachment. They’re the must-have accessories to unlock the full potential of this 2-in-1 S Pen is an upgrade from the thin stylus we’ve been using on Note phones and the Samsung Chromebook Pro. At thick it’s bigger and easier to hold, and makes the previous S Pen look like a toothpick by comparison. It still has a fine tip this time made of rubber instead of plastic, and a clickable side button for bringing up the familiar Air Command the usual S Pen tools are here, including Notes, Smart Select create cropped or lassoed screenshots and GIFs, and Screen Write write directly on a screenshot. There are also three newer functions that can be added to the fanned-out shortcut list Translate, Magnify zoom in and Glance dock and quickly view an app.Handwriting and drawing are naturally better on a tablet using a thicker S Pen, too. It’s around the same width as the Apple Pencil, but shorter and boasts four times as many pressure levels. It really captures every angle, which can be great for shading, depending on the app you’re using. Samsung includes two apps – Notes and the coloring-book-like – and there are more in the Google Play S Pen doesn’t slot inside the thin tablet, so you can’t seamlessly hide the thicker stylus when it’s not in use. Instead, Samsung has added an pen holder loop for the keyboard – if you buy the keyboard. The good news is that the S Pen doesn’t need to be charged, and doesn’t roll away constantly, as it has two flatter sides and a clip. The Apple Pencil likes to roll off tables because there’s nowhere to put it and, if frequently used, is always at risk of being out of attachmentDoubles as a case that wraps around both sidesDoesn't require charging or pairing – it just worksEnd flap can't shut off the screen or close magnetically The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3's keyboard attachment is worth the extra money if you’re looking to substitute this tablet for a laptop. Its cramped layout a necessity is still useable, with decent travel when you hit the plastic keys – and all the important keys are missing? There are no function keys along the top we’re okay with that, and it’s sorely missing a home button, requiring you to reach for the fingerprint home sensor on the tablet and possibly knocking your coffee over in the process. We’d also like to see the search key bring up Google Search instead of Google Now On Tap, requiring an extra screen press for the search good amount of travel on these plastic keys Everything folds up nicely, enveloping the tablet in a soft plastic cover on both sides. That’s a big plus. Apple’s iPad Pro keyboard cover only protects the front screen – and aluminum does dent, much like glass shatters. Samsung basically throws in a back cover for of all, there’s no need for Bluetooth pairing or charging. The keyboard has six Pogo pins above the top row of keys, and these magnetically clip to the Tab S3’s side frame. Samsung has its own version of the Smart just wish its magnets were stronger. Picking the tablet up by the screen often detaches the bottom part of the keyboard luckily the back, where there are more magnets, stays secured. The end of the screen cover should also be magnetic, and should turn off the screen when closed. It doesn’t – instead, it can flap open if you’re not careful. We purchased the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 so our expert reviewer could thoroughly test and assess it. Keep reading for our full product review. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 isn’t the latest and greatest, but you wouldn’t know it just from looking at it. The slate comes with a high-resolution screen, an all-day battery, and an S Pen stylus that makes digitally writing on the display simple and fun. Although it might not be as powerful as the new iPad Pro or the Galaxy Tab S4, for many users who want a reliable multimedia experience and don’t necessarily need all the bells and whistles, the Tab S3 gets the job done. We recently tested the Galaxy Tab S3, using it for multimedia, writing, and productivity. And as expected, the tablet delivered the level of sophistication and quality we’ve come to expect from Samsung slates. Design Sleek and attractive The Galaxy Tab S3 we tested has a black finish, though silver is also available. The slate measures x x inches and weighs ounces. The black version has a sleek look, but the back is glossy, so you’ll find yourself wiping off fingerprints often unless you use a case. Fortunately, the back is flat so it won’t go sliding off your desk despite the slick finish. On the front, Samsung has the same black, glossy finish with a Samsung logo at the top. On the bottom bezel, you’ll find a physical home button that you can use to navigate. There are also two capacitive buttons on both sides of the home button. While we found the home button to be reliable and well-built, the capacitive buttons can be a little less responsive. “The display delivered outstanding visuals with perfect brightness and color reproduction.” Along the left side of the tablet, you’ll find buttons to control volume and lock the screen. There’s also a set of magnetic connectors that allows you to connect the Galaxy Tab S3 to a separate physical keyboard to use it more as a laptop. On the bottom, you’ll find two speaker grilles, a USB-C port, and a headphone jack. Performance Older doesn’t mean slower The Galaxy Tab S3 has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM. This was strong hardware when the tablet released last year, but it’s on the older side now. That said, the Tab S3 still did a solid job of handling most tasks. When we were flipping around to different apps and surfing the Web, the tablet did a great job of handling multitasking without any sign of slowdown or poor performance. If you plan to use the slate for a lot of graphics-intensive apps, like 3D drawing programs and games then you might notice some stutters. The average user planning to watch some videos and do some browsing shouldn’t have any difficulty. The Galaxy Tab S3 ships with an S Pen stylus that you can use to make quick notes or draw with the built-in Samsung apps. You can also use it to magnify a part of the screen and create a palette of colors for your artwork. The best part is the stylus felt like a real writing instrument. Drawing was effortless and at no point did we suffer from any lag when writing on the screen. Lifewire / Yongfeng Wu Display Rich and colorful The Galaxy Tab S3’s display is inches and uses Super-AMOLED technology. It has a quad-HD resolution of 2048 x 1536. All of that translates to the Galaxy Tab S3’s display being downright impressive with the resolution matching or surpassing other high-end tablets. Whether watching videos or surfing the Web, the display delivered outstanding visuals with perfect brightness and color reproduction. It looked great in both high- and low-light conditions. The Tab S3 also comes with HDR10 support, a technology that allows the screen to work with high dynamic range HDR content. To put it simply, HDR expands the brightness spectrum of a picture and creates richer colors in every scene really making them pop. We saw a big difference in color and contrast between HDR and non-HDR content. Audio Outstanding speakers The Galaxy Tab S3 has quad stereo speakers that have been tuned by its own in-house audio experts at AKG. Better yet, the speakers are also auto-adjusting, so they can deliver pitch-perfect tunes in any environment. In our testing, the Galaxy Tab S3’s speakers sounded downright outstanding. There’s no tinniness like you’d find in other tablets and real depth to both the bass and treble. We were really impressed by the tablet’s sound quality. Battery An all-day runtime Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S3 boasts a 6,000mAh internal battery. Samsung promises eight hours of Internet use time, 102 hours of continuous music playback, and up to 12 hours of video playback. During our testing the battery life was in line with what Samsung said. We used the tablet like regular users might, picking it up throughout the day to check email, go on the Internet, type documents, and have video calls. The slate was able to last throughout the workday — about hours — before it needed to be recharged. “The tablet did a great job of handling multitasking without any sign of slowdown or poor performance.” Camera Passable photos The Galaxy Tab S3 comes with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and a 13-megapixel sensor with autofocus and flash. The front-facing sensor does an outstanding job of making you look good on video calls and its autofocus is both fast and accurate. Selfies, on the other hand, were a little bit disappointing. Facial details were soft and contrast was a problem. The rear-facing camera offered only passable results compared with the average smartphone. Whether we took pictures of landscapes or attempted to snap minute details in flowers, the pictures looked grainy and detail was lost. Even color reproduction was off, causing bright reds and yellows to look somewhat dull in comparison. Software Samsung-flavored Android You’ll find Android Nougat in this slate, which is pretty dated considering two other Android versions that have released since Nougat. If you can get past that, you’ll find Samsung’s own Experience software skin over Android. Experience is Samsung-only software the company has developed to create a unique experience in its smartphones and tablets. It’s designed to work atop Android, so Samsung can take full advantage of Google’s software while offering a customized user interface. “The best part is the stylus felt like a real writing instrument.” Samsung Experience works reasonably well as a tablet skin. It has a simple design that makes it easy to find content in folders and pages of apps and since Samsung updates it each year, it tends to get better with age. Best of all, Samsung has designed it to complement the Google experience instead of taking away from it, so if you’re someone who relies on Google apps like Gmail, Chrome, and YouTube, you’ll find them all easily accessible. Other Android apps can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. That said, not everyone is so keen on getting a device with bundles of Samsung bloatware loaded onto the tablet as soon as they break it out of the box. And although many of those apps, like Samsung’s Notes app, work extremely well on the Galaxy Tab S3, you’ll more than likely find yourself not using much of the pre-loaded software. Price Productivity for a bargain It may seem strange to recommend an older tablet when people are usually looking for the newest hardware, but the Tab S3’s biggest selling point is the price. Available anywhere between for $379 on the lower end and $ on the higher end, it’s hundreds of dollars cheaper than the $ Tab S4 and the $799 11-inch iPad Pro while offering a similar set of features. The specs may not match up, but if you’re on a tight budget the Tab S3 is worthy of consideration. Lifewire / Yongfeng Wu Competition A lot to choose from If you look around in the marketplace, you’ll find that there are newer tablets available that come with more features and power than the Galaxy Tab S3. If you compare the Tab S3 to Samsung’s newer Tab S4, the main differences come down to spec improvements like a faster processor and some subtle design tweaks like narrower bezels and a removed fingerprint sensor in favor of face recognition. There is some value to be found in Samsung’s DeX platform which functions as a desktop experience for the Tab S4 giving you a genuine laptop experience, but if you don’t need the extra productivity features offered, then the Tab S3 is a much more affordable alternative to the Tab S4. It’s impossible to talk about the tablet market without addressing the thousand-pound gorilla in the room — the Apple iPad Pro. Available in both 10-inch and 11-inch models, the iPad Pro has some similarities to the Tab S3. Both have a front dominated by a rich, high-resolution screen, great audio capabilities, and support for stylus and a keyboard attachment. They also appeal to the same set of consumers who want a great multimedia experience mixed with the ability to do drawing and productivity tasks. That said, the difference between Android and iOS is large. Both have their own separate app ecosystems and if you’re already an owner of Apple devices you’ll likely prefer the iPad Pro even if it comes at a higher cost due to better integration with your other devices. You can also check out our full list of the best tablets on the market today, as well as our picks for the best Android tablets and the best drawing tablets. Final Verdict Multimedia and productivity in an affordable Galaxy Tab S3 may be old, but it has an outstanding design and compelling list of features for the price, including a gorgeous screen and outstanding audio. The older processor does cause some hiccups with high-end gaming, but for watching videos, writing, and productivity the Tab S3 is a winner. TheSamsung Galaxy Tab S3 ran Android 7.0 Nougat at launch, with the Samsung Experience software overlay, making it simple and easy to navigate through all the apps and settings. One for everything. It has been quite a while since Samsung has upgraded its premium tablet. We were therefore eager to see how the new device, which is equipped with a lot of features and even the S Pen, performs. The tablet can convince in our review, but Samsung cannot keep its premium promise in all Android tablets are quite rare nowadays, so the previous Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is still a comparatively popular device. Samsung has now announced the new Galaxy Tab S3 SM-T825 and satisfies the demand for a powerful high-end product, but has also reduced the number of products. There will not be an 8-inch model anymore and we do not expect an update for the Galaxy Note Pro models either, since the Galaxy Tab S3 is already shipped with S Pen functionality and the corresponding stylus. Nevertheless, the new tablet offers quite a lot. It is powered by the Snapdragon 820, which is supported by 4 GB of RAM. You also get 32 GB of eMMC storage, which can be expanded by up to 256 GB via the microSD-slot. The Super AMOLED screen features a high resolution and even supports HDR. A modern USB Type-C port also replaces the outdated Micro-USB. As well as a Wi-Fi only model SM-T820; you can also get a version with LTE SM-T825, which corresponds with our test model. There are hardly any other expensive Android tablets anymore. Most devices are designed as convertibles by now, are often shipped with keyboards, and use Windows 10 similar to the siblings Galaxy Book 10 and Book 12. The Apple iPad Pro is certainly the main rival for the Tab S3, but the Lenovo Yoga Book also deserves a look; you can get it both with Android and Windows. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 LTE is very slim at just 6 mm ~ in, but slightly thicker than its predecessor Galaxy Tab S2 mm/~ in. Front and back are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which is fitted into an aluminum frame. The glass elements are very susceptible to fingerprints, but look very nice when they are clean. The bezels could have been a bit smaller. The build quality of the tablet leaves an excellent impression in general. The gaps are even and the materials are sophisticated. We had some reservations in terms of stability, but there are no problems, even though there is some creaking when we try to twist it. One small issue The frame of the card slot is only made of plastic, and there is only a combined slot for microSD- as well as Nano SIM-cards, so they can only be removed together. This was not the case for the Tab S2. The battery is still integrated and cannot be changed by the user. Unfortunately, Samsung unfortunately has waived any protection against moisture and dust for the Galaxy Tab S3. The camera is now almost flush with the case and only a small plastic frame protects the lens against scratches. The tablet is available in black and silver. All SDHC and SDXC cards are supported, and the maximum capacity you can get right now is 256 GB. As with its other products, Samsung follows its own philosophy and does not allow the formatting as internal storage or the transfer of apps to the microSD. The manufacturer now uses the universal Type-C connector for the USB port, which supports the standards Gen. 1. OTG is supported as well, so you can attach external flash drives and peripherals. It is also possible to charge other devices via Tab S3. Supported wireless standards include Bluetooth Wi-Fi Direct as well as ANT+. The system is equipped with Android security patches as of February 1st 2017. Besides feature apps from the Galaxy app store, there are also preinstalled Office apps from Microsoft. The latter cannot be deleted, but only deactivated. You can easily import notes from other Note models via backup function if you have a Samsung account. This worked perfectly with notes from a Galaxy Note Pro Galaxy Tab S3 can also be used to make Wi-Fi module of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 supports all common IEEE standards a/b/g/n/ac in as well as 5 GHz networks. You also get the 2x2 MIMO antenna technology, which not only does promise a better signal quality, but also higher transfer rates. The test model manages very good results in our measurements with our reference router Linksys EA8500. The range is also good and the Wi-Fi signal quality is still sufficient to stream HD videos, even in GHz networks at a distance of around 12 meters/~ ft to the router, one wall in-between. The LTE model is equipped with the X12 modem from Qualcomm, but it is limited to LTE Cat. 6 by Samsung. All required bands and a few more are supported, so even frequent travelers should not have any problems. It takes a while indoors to get a clear signal. It is a bit quicker outdoors, but the accuracy could be rather better. We took the Tab S3 on a short bicycle ride to check the everyday performance and compared the results with the bicycle navigation system Garmin Edge 500. The tablet performs well, but is not quite as accurate as the Edge 500. We can see occasional shortcuts, but the performance is perfectly adequate for car with the front cameraThe front camera f/ of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 has a fixed focus and takes pictures at up to 5 MP. The performance is sufficient for video calls or selfies in good lighting conditions, but sharpness and details are just average. There is also a Beauty Mode for selfies and the maximum video resolution is Full HD 1920x1080 pixels, 30 fps. The main camera of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 has a 13 MP sensor 43 with auto focus and an aperture of f/ The latter is supposed to ensure good pictures in low-light situations. An image stabilizer is not available. A quick look at the specifications shows that Samsung unlike Apple has not equipped its premium tablet with a great camera, but only an average model. The results are decent in good lighting conditions, but they lack dynamic range, which is not changed by the automatic HDR mode either. The autofocus also has problems focusing from time to time. Pictures are rather dark in low-light situations and details are blurry, but the picture noise is not too bad. The maximum video resolution is Ultra HD 3840x2160 pixels, 30 fps and the clips are limited to ten minutes. The sound of the recordings is okay, but the auto focus still reveals some weaknesses especially with fast camera pans. Colors also appear very pale. Unfortunately, there is no Book Cover yet, which was common for the previous model. The S Pen from Staedtler with a pencil design, which was announced at MWC in Barcelona, will not be available in all regions. Samsung also offers generic accessories for its products. The warranty period for the Galaxy Tab S3 is 24 months, twelve months for the battery and six months for the remaining accessories. Samsung also offers Mobile Care Packages, which covers battery or display and liquid defects for two years. Customers have to pay an additional 10% of the retail price in case of a damage. Please see our Guarantees, Return Policies and Warranties FAQ for country-specific capacitive touchscreen of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It provides very good gliding capabilities and is both responsive as well as precise. The display supports inputs via Samsung's S Pen, which was developed in cooperation with Wacom. It is also compatible with other Samsung devices. It works perfectly on a Galaxy Note Pro and has even improved compared to the old S Pen, but the S Pen of the Tab S3 is even noticeably better compared with the test model, because Samsung has implemented a better digitizer layer into the panel. Compared to the Note Pro the new pen is bigger and therefore more comfortable to use. However, it cannot be stored inside the case anymore. At least, the optional keyboard cover offers a latch for the pen. The writing experience is totally different compared to older Pro-devices and much improved. As with the Galaxy Note 7, notes can now be taken directly on the standby screen without activating the device. The other S Pen features are similar as well. The S Pen is still not equipped with its own battery. The physical buttons have crisp and well-defined pressure points, are very responsive and firmly integrated into the aluminum frame of the chassis. The fingerprint scanner also works conveniently and unlocks the device pretty quickly. The optional keyboard cover is unfortunately limited to 2 different stand angles and is secured by magnets. It is not perfect for the use on the lap. The keyboard layout, however, is very good and all the 64 keys have convenient travel with a good typing experience, even though the surface is a bit squeezed due to the form factor. We also miss a background illumination for the keys. The cover is attached to the Galaxy Tab S3 via magnets and connected via POGO pins. The Super AMOLED screen features 2048x1536 pixels and also supports the playback of HDR content. This is particularly good news for users of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Video. Our test model manages only an average brightness distribution, but this is no problem in practice. The display of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 reaches up to 452 nits at the center on a pure white background with the activated ambient light sensor. We can even measure up to 633 nits in the more realistic APL50 measurement, but only up to 302 nits with the manual control. Clouding is not an issue for the Galaxy Tab S3 thanks to the OLED technology. The tablet can also produce absolute black, which ensures brilliant contrast levels that tend toward infinite. However, the tablet uses pulse-width modulation to control the luminance. It is active on every brightness level and fluctuates between 220 and 240 Hz. It seems Samsung has not used its rates AMOLED generation, but an older version, maybe even the panel from the predecessor. 433cd/mÂČ438cd/mÂČ472cd/mÂČ442cd/mÂČ452cd/mÂČ488cd/mÂČ476cd/mÂČ487cd/mÂČ526cd/mÂČ Distribution of brightnessX-Rite i1Pro 2Maximum 526 cd/mÂČ Nits Average cd/mÂČ Minimum cd/mÂČBrightness Distribution 82 %Center on Battery 452 cd/mÂČContrast ∞1 Black 0 cd/mÂČΔE Color Greyscale sRGB Argyll 3D AdobeRGB 1998 Argyll 3D94% AdobeRGB 1998 Argyll 3D sRGB Argyll 3D Display P3 Argyll 3DGamma Galaxy Tab S3 SM-T825Super AMOLED, 2048x1526, Galaxy Tab S2 LTESuper AMOLED, 2048x1536, MediaPad T2 ProIPS, 1920x1200, iPad Pro 2048x1536, Pixel CLTPS, 2560x1800, ZenPad 3s 10 Z500MIPS, 2048x1536, iPad 2017IPS, 2048x1536, middle452358 -21%392 -13%523 16%487 8%489 8%514 14%Brightness468357 -24%385 -18%500 7%510 9%443 -5%485 4%Brightness Distribution8286 5%91 11%93 13%91 11%86 5%88 7%Black Level * dE 2000 * 1% -150% 39% -191% -206% 22%Colorchecker dE 2000 max. * -95% 52% -190% 27%Greyscale dE 2000 * -15% -300% -17% -563% -458% -75% 104% 98% 89% 104% 102% 107% 99%CCT6500 100%6366 102%7426 88%6662 98%6565 99%7457 87%6647 98%Color Space Percent of AdobeRGB 1998 -24%Color Space Percent of sRGB 0%Contrast6641006124911371117* ... smaller is better Screen Flickering / PWM Pulse-Width Modulationâ„čTo dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation PWM . We check the color accuracy of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 with a spectrophotometer and the analysis software CalMAN. As with its predecessor, there are different picture modes. The adaptive settings are active by default, which is supposed to select the right settings based on the content. There are also three selectable color profiles, and we had a closer look at them. All profiles manage very accurate color and visible deviations for the human eye are limited to individual colors. We can see the highest deviation for blue with the profile Simple at a DeltaE value of The grayscale never exceeds a DeltaE of in any case. We noticed the biggest differences in terms of color gamut. While the profile Simple is using the smaller sRGB, Photo is targeting AdobeRGB and Cinema P3. The color gamut is also comparatively wide. Display Response Timesâ„čDisplay response times show how fast the screen is able to change from one color to the next. Sunlight is not an unsolvable challenge for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. The high luminance and the good contrast, ensure the visibility of content even in very bright environments. Only the panel surface can create strong reflections depending on the viewing viewing angle stability of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is on par with the previous model. The luminance drop from flat angles is small and we can notice a green cast when the angle exceeds 90 degrees, which is typical for many OLED Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 inside the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is not the latest high-end SoC anymore, but the performance is still very good. The graphics adapter Adreno 530 shares the designation with the GPU from the 821, but the clocks are slightly lower. The components are rounded off by 4 GB of RAM. The tablet performs well in the benchmarks, only PCMark determines a score on par with the predecessor Galaxy Tab S2, and even the Galaxy S8+ is only a tad faster. The comparison with the modern high-end smartphone from Samsung still shows that the CPU and GPU performance could have been better with a current top-tier SoC. The iPad 2017 is also faster than the test model in the system as well as GPU benchmarks. This does not make a big difference in practice right now, but might change in 1 or 2 use the preloaded Samsung Browser for the browser benchmarks. The results are good, but cannot compete with Apple’s iPads and also reveal some weaknesses in terms of the Java applications you can use within the browser. Subjectively, however, we could not determine any limitations in everyday applications and websites are completely and quickly loaded on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is equipped with 32 GB of eMMC storage, but you can only use GB after the initial set-up. The flash storage is slightly faster compared to the Galaxy Tab S2 but far from being fast by modern standards. Samsung could at least include 64 GB if the storage is so slow. It is also possible to expand the storage via a microSD-card. The performance of the slot is on a combatively good level, but it cannot utilize the full performance of our reference card Toshiba Exceria Pro M401 THN-M401S0640E2, UHS-1 Class 3, up to 95 MB/s read, up to 80 MB/s write. The Qualcomm Adreno 530 in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is a powerful GPU, which supports modern graphics interfaces such as OpenGL ES or Vulkan. It is powerful enough for smooth gameplay in all games from the Google Play Store, even at the highest settings. This is supported by the benchmarks. It does not matter if you play “Asphalt 8” or “Dead Trigger 2”, both games can be enjoyed without stutters. The loading times, however, are slightly longer due to the slow storage. It also looks as if Samsung has installed a frame limit, because both games are capped at 30 fps, which is sufficient for smooth gameplay. The frame rates in “Asphalt 8” are steady, even after one hour. Both the sensors and the touchscreen work flawlessly and the Galaxy Tab S3 is compact enough for the hands, despite its size. The sound is comparatively good, not only because of the four speakers, but you can also never completely cover them with the hand. The highest recorded temperature while idling is just °C ~84 °F. We had a closer look at the performance under sustained workloads with the GFXBench Battery Test Manhattan The Tab S3 can maintain its performance for 16 runs of the demanding test, before the results drops by almost 50%. Pink Noise diagramThe four stereo speakers of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 were developed in cooperation with AKG and Harman and work similar to the modules in the Apple iPad Pro They automatically adjust to the orientation of the tablet and provide an even sound experience; it does not matter if you use the Tab S3 in portrait or landscape mode. This works very well in practice. The quality of the speakers is comparatively good and the performance for mids and high tones is pretty linear; only the iPad Pro is better within the comparison. The Tab S3 can be really loud at more than 86 dBA, but will sound a bit tinny in this case. The result is decent when you use average volume levels. We cannot hear background noise, even with a very quiet playback. Samsung is using a Qualcomm SoC, so Bluetooth supports the playback of audio contents via aptX HD 24-bit, high-res. We did not experience any issues with the connection. The output via mm stereo jack is also possible and the playback is subjectively clear and without any static. dBA 0102030405060708090Deep BassMiddle BassHigh BassLower RangeMidsHigher MidsLower HighsMid HighsUpper HighsSuper 63median rangehide median Pink NoiseSamsung Galaxy Tab S3 SM-T825Apple iPad Pro Pixel CSamsung Galaxy Tab S3 SM-T825 audio analysis+ speakers can play relatively loud dBBass 100 - 315 Hz- nearly no bass - on average lower than median± linearity of bass is average delta to prev. frequencyMids 400 - 2000 Hz± higher mids - on average higher than median+ mids are linear delta to prev. frequencyHighs 2 - 16 kHz+ balanced highs - only away from median+ highs are linear delta to prev. frequencyOverall 100 - Hz± linearity of overall sound is average difference to medianCompared to same class» 47% of all tested devices in this class were better, 9% similar, 44% worse» The best had a delta of 7%, average was 19%, worst was 50%Compared to all devices tested» 41% of all tested devices were better, 8% similar, 52% worse» The best had a delta of 3%, average was 20%, worst was 65%Apple iPad Pro audio analysis+ speakers can play relatively loud dBBass 100 - 315 Hz- nearly no bass - on average lower than median± linearity of bass is average delta to prev. frequencyMids 400 - 2000 Hz+ balanced mids - only away from median+ mids are linear 5% delta to prev. frequencyHighs 2 - 16 kHz± higher highs - on average higher than median+ highs are linear delta to prev. frequencyOverall 100 - Hz± linearity of overall sound is average difference to medianCompared to same class» 37% of all tested devices in this class were better, 8% similar, 56% worse» The best had a delta of 7%, average was 19%, worst was 50%Compared to all devices tested» 29% of all tested devices were better, 8% similar, 63% worse» The best had a delta of 3%, average was 20%, worst was 65%Google Pixel C audio analysis+ speakers can play relatively loud dBBass 100 - 315 Hz- nearly no bass - on average 28% lower than median± linearity of bass is average delta to prev. frequencyMids 400 - 2000 Hz± higher mids - on average higher than median± linearity of mids is average delta to prev. frequencyHighs 2 - 16 kHz± higher highs - on average higher than median± linearity of highs is average 9% delta to prev. frequencyOverall 100 - Hz± linearity of overall sound is average difference to medianCompared to same class» 77% of all tested devices in this class were better, 5% similar, 18% worse» The best had a delta of 7%, average was 19%, worst was 50%Compared to all devices tested» 76% of all tested devices were better, 6% similar, 18% worse» The best had a delta of 3%, average was 20%, worst was 65%Frequency Comparison Checkboxes select/deselectable!Samsung has reduced the power consumption of the Galaxy Tab S3 significantly compared to the previous model; it is only beaten by some rivals while idling at the lowest luminance. Good news for the battery runtimes. The tablet also supports Quick Charge but it is only shipped with the usual quick-charge adapter from Samsung, so the possibilities are not fully utilized. A full recharge takes about three hours; the charge is 13% after 15 minutes and 23% after 30 minutes. 80% is available after 103 minutes. The provided power adapter is very efficient and only pulls watts from the saver The battery of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 has a capacity of 6000 mAh and is only slightly bigger compared to the Tab S2 5870 mAh. The battery runtimes, however, are significantly longer, thanks to the reduced power consumption. The Galaxy Tab S3 performs well among the comparison group and even beats the two iPads. The tests at an adjusted luminance of 150 nits are perfect to compare the rivals. Samsung’s tablet is basically on par with the Apple competitor in the Wi-Fi test, but the video runtime is much shorter. The runtime of 633 hours in the PCMark for Android Work Battery Test is also only an average result. Samsung has implemented several power-saving features to increase the battery runtime of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. Test model courtesy of Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 LTE is a very good tablet, which does not rely on modern high-end hardware across the board as with the Apple iPad 2017, but the overall package is very compelling. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 might not offer many superlatives, but it is currently the best Android tablet. Besides a great display with HDR support, good speakers, improved battery runtimes and S Pen support, the Wi-Fi module in particular is very fast. The integrated Snapdragon 820 is certainly not the latest SoC from Qualcomm, but the performance is still very good. Only the small and slow eMMC storage is not a good fit for a premium multimedia tablet. Samsung has not included very good cameras either, so there is no real premium feeling. We really like the S Pen support though. It is shipped with every Tab S3 and leaves an excellent impression. 770 Euros ~$839 is still a lot of money for a tablet, and there are not many reasons to switch if you already own a Galaxy Tab S2 and can do without the pen. Em vĂdeo Design e som Pensa no Galaxy S7. Agora estica ele. Speaker AKG Audio Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 dibekali empat speaker AKG Kemampuan Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 makin lengkap bekat penggunaan audio yang sangat berkelas.
